A U.S. District judge issued a ruling on Friday, October 17, 2014, overturning Arizona’s ban on same-sex marriages. Arizona’s attorney general, Tom Horne, also announced that he would not appeal the decision, believing there would be virtually no chance of having the ban upheld on appeal. Horne’s announcement was followed by the immediate issuing of marriage licenses and marriages of many same-sex couples in Arizona. The ruling ushers in a new era for family law attorneys in Arizona who will likely see an increase of cases involving same-sex couples, including divorces and pre-nuptial agreements.
